AREA OF A SQUARE



A square is a polygon with four sides equal and having four angles measured 90 degrees each.

 Illustration:













To get the area of a square, simply multiply each side twice. that is side * side.

Formula:

A = s*s

Problem:

1. Find the area of a square with side measures 4 meters.

Given:

s = 4 m

Required: Area

A= s*s

A = 4 m * 4 m

A = 16 sq. m. (answer)

2. From the figure below, find the area of a square.

Figure:

Given:

s = 6 inches

Required: Area

A= s*s

A = 6 in * 6 in

A = 36 sq. in. (answer)

3. A square has a diagonal measures 25 inches. What is the area of a square? (See illustration below).

s = 5 inches

Required: Area

A= s*s

A = 5 in * 5 in

A = 25 sq. in. (answer)
