HOW TO SOLVE PERCENT PROPORTION PROBLEMS

Simple tips:

When you see these terms:

  • "of" means multiply.
  • "is" means equals.
  • "What percent" means any letter you want to use as variable.
  • "Percent" means 1/100.

Percent proportion is just a ratio of a given any number to 100. Any number given should be divided by 100 to get its percent, or it's fraction. If, for example, we are asked the n% of m number, we simply do like n%*m (* means multiply). We want to convert n to decimal before applying the multiplication as mathematical rule. For instance, the 25% of 200 where n = 25% and m = 200 gives us 0.25*200=50. This follows that 40% of 500 is 0.4*500 gives us 200.

If we are asked to know "What percent of a number is" , we should simply follow the simple tips provided above. As an example, "what percent of 200 is 75?" The term "of" here means multiply and any number say "n" with "is" as (=) symbol. So, n% x 200 = 75 is our mathematical set up. Therefore,  n% = (75/200)*100 = 0.375*100 = 37.5 would be the resulting output.

Express each percent as a fraction or decimals if applicable.

, referring to the tip above, % means 1/100, so we divided 70 by 100.
