ALGEBRAIC FACTOR

ALGEBRAIC FACTOR:

By definition:

one that actively contributes to the production of a result.

- any of the numbers or symbols in mathematics that when multiplied together form a 

product.

Illustration:

In the following expression:

1. xy; 

In this case, x any y are factors of xy. Each letter in the expression is a factor.

2. 3ab; 

In this case, 3, a, and b are factors 3ab.  Each letter in the expression is a factor.

3. 3 * 4 = 12 ; 

In this case, 3 and 4 are factors of 12.

4.   (x+y)2;

In this case, (x + y) and (x + y) are the factors of  (x+y)2;

5. ax + ay;

In this case, a and (x + y) are the factors of ax + ay.
