MDAS OPERATION

M(multiplication),D(division),  A(addition), and S(subtraction) or MDAS OPERATION

Stands for M(multiplication),D(division),  A(addition), and S(subtraction). This is a to be followed according to its structure. we mean at first we have to multiply as our first operation, divide as the second operation, add as the third, and lastly subtract. This is used when a series of operation appears together in one expression.

Illustration:

1. In the expression 2 + 3 * 5-6 , the first operation to be used is the multiplication. Since
2 + 3 * 5-6 (highlighted in red color) is in the multiplication mode, this should be the first to simplify. Hence 2+ 15- 6 would be the result knowing that 3*5 = 15. Then in this case we have no division, we can skip into addition and subtraction, therefore. Now in the expression 2+ 15- 6, 2+15 is highlighted as to the second operation. The 2+ 15 gives as 17 as the result. Therefore, 17 - 6 was left from the previous 2 + 3 * 5-6 . Finally, 17-6 is 11. So 11 is our final answer in the expression 2 + 3 * 5-6 , or we can mathematically say
2 + 3 * 5-6 =11.

2. In this given expression 3 - 4*5 / 2 + 1, what should be the result? Since by the MDAS operation, the first operation to operate is multiplication, we have 4*5 as highlighted in red from 3 - 4*5 / 2 + 1. So therefore, 3 - 20 /2 + 1 is the initial result since 4*5 is 20. Now the next thing we're gonna do is to execute the next operation of MDAS. And that is division. From initial result of 3 - 20 /2 + 1, the red highlighted is to be divided by 2, Or 3 - 20 /2 + 1 , now highlighted by blue color to emphasize. Therefore, 20/2 is 10. substitute this new result to the first initial result 3 - 20 /2 + 1,or 3- 10 + 1 this time. Did you follow it? The third MDAS operation is addition but since the series does not hold by the symbols of groupings, so we can say 3- 10 + 1, is what we mean. For that 3 + 1 - 10 (by commutative law). And now for the almost final result 4-10 is the last thing to operate. Finally, 4-10 is equal to -6. Therefore we can mathematically say that 3 - 4*5 / 2 + 1, is equal to -6.

Now for more exercises, answer this following expression.

1. 5*2-1

2. 3*3+4

3. 4(5)/2 -3 +7, (the parenthesis means multiply)

4. 5*6/3 + 3*2 + 4

5. 6/3 + 2*3 -4

6. 3*2*1 / 2 - 4*1 / 2

7. 8* 4 /2* 2

8. 8* 4 /(2* 2)

9. 5*6/5 - 3*2 + 4 * 3

10. 3*5 - 4*6 + 8/2(4)

11. 3 - 4*5 / 2 + 1

12. 5 + 2*10 / 4 - 10*2/5

13. (8* 4 /2* 2) / [8* 4 /(2* 2)]

14. (2*3 -4) / 4

15. 1+2-3+4-5+6-7+8-9*0
