PERCENT

Percent is a part of a whole presented numerically. Percent is the product of the base multiplied by the rate.

Formula:

Percent = base * rate or simply P = b*r

where:

P = percent

b = base

r = rate

Therefore;

Rate = percent / base, or simply  R = p / b

p = percent

b = base

R = rate

Base = percent / rate, or  B = p / r

p = percent

B = base

r = rate

Solved problems:

1. What is 10% of 100?

Based on the problem the given rate is 10% with the base 100. Convert the rate 10% into decimal like 10% = 0.1. So having the formula for percent P = b*r we can solved this problem.

Given:

P = ?
b = 100
r = 10% or 0.1

Solution:

 P = b*r = 100*0.1 = 10

2. 20% of 200 is what number?

Based on the problem the given rate is 20% with the base 200. Convert the rate 20% into decimal like 20% = 0.2. So having the formula for percent P = b*r we can solved this problem.

Given:

P = ?
b = 200
r = 20% or 0.2

Solution:

 P = b*r = 200*0.2 = 40

 3. Find the 12% of 190

Based on the problem the given rate is 12% with the base 190. Convert the rate 12% into decimal like 12% = 0.12. So having the formula for percent P = b*r we can solved this problem.

Given:

P = ?
b = 190
r = 12% or 0.12

Solution:

 P = b*r = 190*0.12 = 22.8
